Pavers Installation & Maintenance

Installing graystone pavers on a sandy base

Pavers are awesome additions to any landscape, mainly due to how useful and yet sturdy and low-maintenance they are. Their toughness enables them to withstand regular heavy foot traffic and vehicle loads, high and low temperatures, and both wet and dry conditions. Pavers are also slip-resistant and eco-friendly.

The best part? All it takes is a sweep and some washing to look good as new, with some sealing every once in a while.

Plus,
pavers are extremely versatile. Not only is there a myriad of different colors, shapes, and textures, but they can also be laid in countless different patterns to complement any home.

Pavers allow you to build a variety of structures.

Driveways:
Due to their sturdiness and ability to withstand heavy loads, pavers are a great choice of material when it comes to building driveways. As compared to concrete and asphalt, which have traditionally always been the two main materials for driveways, pavers have the ability to flex when accommodating vehicle weights and adapt to the seasons. Pavers also have cracks, allowing water to seep through, thus reducing runoff.

Walkways:
As mentioned above, pavers are slip-resistant, reducing the chances of falls, especially during inclement weather. As such, pavers make for stable and safe pathways, and given their hardiness, will last for years to come. Furthermore, since they come in such a wide variety of colors, shapes, and textures, and you lay them however you like, you can create stunning paths to lead your visitors around your outdoor area.

Patios:
Once again, the versatility and durability of pavers make them great materials for patios. Whatever the style of your home is, you can use pavers to install a patio that matches and complements your home’s aesthetic. Just give it a sweep and rinse every once in a while, and it’ll look good as new.

Pool surrounds: The slip resistance of pavers makes it well-suited for pool surrounds. It’s also  strong enough to be able to withstand chlorine and saltwater.

Outdoor kitchens and fire pits:
The natural strength of pavers and their ability to handle high temperatures means it’s great for functioning as the base of fire pits, as well as heavy counters, grills, and seating areas for outdoor kitchens.

The possibilities are endless, and with the decades of experience that our team of landscapers has and the wide range of
equipment and materials at our disposal, we have the know-how and resources to make any structure possible.

Here are the different types of materials that we offer here at
Boise Landscaping Company.

Concrete pavers:
Concrete pavers are on the more affordable end, being able to mimic the appearance of natural stones and brick, but at a fraction of the price.

The catch is that over time, concrete will fade, requiring sealing to maintain its appearance. The good news is, other than that, concrete pavers can do everything that natural stone and brick pavers can.

Brick pavers:
Ah, the age-old brick. Brick pavers create a classic, timeless look for any outdoor setting they’re used in. Unlike concrete pavers, brick pavers are much longer-lasting in appearance, so your brick pavers won’t ever fade. It’s also partly because in the event that any part is chipped or comes off for any reason, below is just more brick.

If you’re going for a more classic or traditional look, use brick pavers for your walkways, patios, and driveway. Brick pavers are most effective when used for those structures. That’s not to say you can’t use them for other structures like fire pits, but when used for the previously mentioned structures, brick pavers can best exude their classic, timeless vibes.

Natural stone pavers: Natural stones include limestone, slate, granite, and sandstone. These tend to be the most pricey, as they’re more durable than brick and concrete pavers and often have greater aesthetic appeal due to their exquisite unique patterns and colors.

Given their beauty, walkways, patios, and pool surrounds are the best ways to have their splendor on full display. The high-class elegant look that natural stone pavers bring to the table also often increases your property value by a good amount. This makes natural stone pavers an expensive, but worthy investment.

Composite materials:
Lastly, composite materials are modern materials that are made up of a mix of recycled plastics and rubber.

While they don’t sound too reliable, technology has come a long way, and composite materials are actually pretty tough, and are highly resistant to extreme weather and temperatures, stains, and fading. They are also very light and easy to install. They may not be able to handle super heavy loads, but that aside, they actually beat concrete and brick when it comes to weather resistance, and they beat concrete when it comes to resistance to fading.

There’s also no loss in aesthetic appeal, as since these are man-made materials, whatever texture you prefer, you can get them manufactured to look that way, even natural stone and wood.

And just to reiterate, composite materials are not inferior to the other materials. You’re getting similar, even higher levels of durability, and even better, more customizable aesthetics. The only con is that it can’t handle extremely heavy loads, so as long as it’s not used for the driveway, you won’t have any issues.

At the end of the day, it’s always good to know the options available to you and their costs so that you’re not overcharged. We’ve done our best to provide you with comprehensive overviews of each material, so next time, you should roughly know which materials you’d prefer for your home. At the end of the day, if you’re still not sure, don’t worry. Your local landscaper can go through each material in more detail and advise you as to which one is best.
